TBLC is pleased to announce that Manatee County Commissioner Larry Bustle and his wife Edie and Senator Jack Latvala who represents parts of Pinellas and Pasco Counties are the recipients of its 2016 Library Champion Awards.
Mr. Bustle served on the Manatee County Commission from 2008 until 2016 and was outspoken on the Commission about the importance of libraries and the their impact on the lives of Manatee residents. Edie actively served on the Library System Board of Trustees and constantly carried the message of the library’s impact to the community. TBLC is pleased to recognize this incredible team of Library Champions.
The Manatee County Public Library recognized the Bustle’s contributions during a festive award presentation ceremony on November 22.
Senator Latvala has a long and distinguished record of supporting libraries and has played a major role in the establishment and development of the East Lake Community Library. He represents District 16 that includes parts of Pinellas and Pasco Counties. During the last legislative session the Senator chaired the Senate Transportation, Tourism, and Economic Development Committee that plays a major role in funding library programs including State Aid to Public Libraries, Public Library Construction Grants, Library Cooperative Grants that support TBLC and the other four multitype library cooperatives, and funding for the Division of Library and Information services.
Senator Latvala supports library funding, is very accessible to library advocates, and provides them with good advice about how to work and communicate effectively with his colleagues in the legislature. We will present Senator Latvala with his award in the near future.
Florida libraries and those in the TBLC region are fortunate to have Library Champions like Mr. and Mrs. Bustle and Senator Jack Latvala!
