This workshop will focus on how you can improve the batch cataloging at your library with MarcEdit, a free software for processing library metadata. This interactive and informative session will highlight many basic MarcEdit tools, techniques, and key features.
By the end of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
1. Understand the benefits of using established metadata management workflows and tools for processing batches of MARC bibliographic records
2. Evaluate and validate MARC bibliographic records
3. Perform simple tasks, such as:
a. Merge, join, and split MARC files
b. Apply batch transformations to bibliographic records such as adding, deleting, and/or editing fields, subfields, and indicators
c. Deduplicate records and remove empty fields and subfields
d. Use RDA Helper functionality to add RDA fields, qualifying information, and expand abbreviations
Priority seating will be given to TBLC Members.
Presenter: Marina Morgan
Marina Morgan is the Metadata Librarian at Roux Library, Florida Southern College. She has a Master of Information Studies from the Faculty of Information at University of Toronto, Canada and a Post-Master’s Certificate in Library and Information Science, Web Programming and Information Architecture Pathway from San José State University School of Information. She is actively involved in scholarly research and contributed to the library profession through presentations, peer reviewed posters and papers at various national and international conferences. She is also active professionally in several state and national library associations, committees, and interest groups.
