Basic 21st Century Technology, Information & Communication Skills for Successful Citizens

– Paul Alford, Learning Services Manager at Citrus County Public Library

In order for Floridians to thrive and prosper in today’s information and technology based culture, they need to know a great deal about use of technology, information and communications.  Fortunately, for some time now, libraries have been helping them learn these things through the way we provide services, through formal classes and training, and through informal coaching that public service staff routinely provide everyday.

Paul has developed a checklist of these skills to help make us more aware of the ways we are helping people learn everyday.  With the budget and staff reductions we have experienced, the last thing libraries need is a “new something” to do.  This is not about a new thing to do – it is about taking credit for something we are already doing that has a transformative impact on people’s lives.
