Introducing RDA: 2, Resource Description (2 Parts)
In this four-hour live online class, an overview of Resource Description and Access (RDA) is presented, with a focus on its structure, its general principles and supporting concepts, and the core elements it defines for bibliographic records.
This live online class (organized as two consecutive, 2-hr. modules) explores RDA\\'s (Resource Description and Access) basic guidelines with respect to the description of bibliographic resources. Catalogers have always provided descriptions of library resources and will continue to do so under RDA, but how it\\'s done will change somewhat. We also contrast RDA descriptive cataloging practices with those of AACR2 (the Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd ed.) to assist in the possible transition to RDA.
RDA\\'s rules regarding serials will not be included in any depth in this class. The online RDA Toolkit will not be utilized in this class, which focuses on RDA\\'s content and not the functionality of the online tool.
Practice and readings may be provided for participants to complete on their own.
