2012 TBLC Annual Meeting

Date(s) - 11/02/2012
9:00 am - 3:45 pm

Our speaker will be TBLC Executive Director Charlie Parker and the meeting will feature a panel discussion.  Charlie’s topic will be“Changes and Opportunities in the Library Environment:  Where we are, how we got here, and New Opportunities Before Us.”  His talk will set things up for an afternoon panel featuring area librarians who are developing exciting new programs and services.  The panel will be followed by a group session where we call on the talent in the room to identify things libraries can do – even with the current budget and staff reductions, to take advantage of the opportunities before us.

The panelists include:

  • UCF Knowledge Commons: A Student & Library Partnership – Frank R. Allen, Associate Director for Administrative, University of Central Florida Libraries
  • What are you doing with my library space? - Bill Garrison, Dean of University of South Florida Libraries
  • An Experiment at OCLS- Mary Anne Hodel, Director, Orange County Library System
  • Participatory Content Creation In Your Library – Kevin Griffith, Pasco County Public Library

The panel session will be followed by a brief facilitated discussion – Identifying the Attainable – Cool New Things We Can Do in Our Libraries.

The Annual Meeting also includes a business meeting where TBLC reports to the membership on its activities and brings forward issues for consideration.  The business meeting agenda will include:

  • State of the Association Presentation – Beth Farmer, TBLC Assistant Director
  • Treasurer’s Report
  • Election of Officers and Directors

Our Entertainment this year will feature Meredith Myers, Stand-Up Librarian.  Meredith entertains with an all ages literary comedy show. A cross between Pippi Longstocking and Sandra Bernhard, Meredith entertains while educates about the importance of libraries as she addresses everything from the Dewey Decimal System and Harry Potter to storytime and book club.  Bring a love of reading and get ready to laugh with the world’s only Stand-Up Librarian! And like any good librarian, she also gives out free bookmarks.  Yes, FREE BOOKMARKS!

Comedian/Librarian Meredith Myers has a Masters degree in Library and Information Sciences from USF and has been performing stand-up comedy since 2002 after checking out a comedy book from her local library.  Binding her experiences in comedy and libraries, Meredith created www.StandUpLibrarian.com in 2010 with the purpose to entertain while educating people about the importance of literacy and libraries.  In addition to performing, she most recently launched Meredith Myers Designs, a literary purse business that she designs and sews herself because if there is one thing cooler than reading a book, it is wearing it.
