Cataloging

TBLC provides bibliographic services to members through current,
retrospective, and special collections cataloging, OCLC
batchloading, CatExpress, workshops, a special interest group, and
an electronic mailing list.

TBLC works with SOLINET, the OCLC regional network, and OCLC to
help member libraries maintain their local databases, add holdings
to the OCLC WorldCat database, and lend and borrow materials
with other libraries in the state and region.

Workshops
TBLC's Continuing Education program offers several cataloging
workshops each year. Topics have included Introduction to MARC,
MARC cataloging for books, serials, videos, sound recordings, and
electronic resources, LC classification and subject headings, Dewey
classification, and Authority Control. Check the
Continuing Education page
for quarterly schedules and more
information on course offerings.

Cataloging Special Interest Group (CatSIG)
The Cataloging Special Interest Group meets quarterly to discuss
current topics of cataloging interest. The group usually meets at a
member library and always includes lunch in the meeting plans.

Tblcats
TBLC maintains a number of electronic mailing lists for librarians in the
Tampa Bay area. The Tblcats list is the mailing list reserved for
cataloging issues. Subscribers may post questions about the policies
and practices of other libraries, cataloging rules, and any other
cataloging issue they wish to hear more about from other catalogers.
Visit the Tblcats page to sign up for the list or check the archives of
past postings.
